Washington City Transit and the Washington County Transportation Authority combined effective July 1, 2015. The combined transit agency now operates under the name “Freedom Transit.”
Freedom Transit’s public transit services are available thanks to the generous financial assistance of the following supporters: PA Department of Transportation (PennDOT); Federal Transit Administration (FTA); Washington County; the City of Washington; East Washington Borough; Canonsburg Borough and the Township of South Strabane.
Freedom Transit is classified as a “non-operating” agency – through state and federal grants the agency secures public transit vehicles, related equipment and amenities and administers the public transit services through the Washington County Transportation Authority. The Authority subcontracts with private transportation providers to maintain the vehicles and provide the public transit services.
The mission of Freedom Transit is to provide safe and reliable transit services to area residents and to promote area revitalization by enhancing transit services and by offering more transit-friendly options to the community.
