WASHINGTON RIDES AND WASHINGTON CITY TRANSIT ARE COMBINING INTO ONE AGENCY
EFFECTIVE WEDNESDAY, JULY 1, 2015
What’s Happening Now
On July 1, 2015, Washington County Transportation Authority (aka Washington Rides) and
Washington City Transit combined into one public transit agency.
At first, you won’t notice much of a difference. There will still
be Washington City Transit buses around the City and going to and from Downtown Pittsburgh
on the same schedules and for the same fare. Washington Rides will still be providing shared
ride services around the County, and the Freedom Line route will operate on the same schedule
for the same fare.
What will be Happening in the Future
Over the next several months and years, there will be changes. We will be eliminating
Washington City Transit’s website and developing a new website. We will be
rebranding our services using the name “Freedom Transit” with a new logo and color scheme. And our combined fixed route bus
routes and fares will be integrated and improved to eliminate duplication and provide better
services for our customers.
We will continue to provide you with updates on when and how these changes
will occur as we work through our merger plan.
We look forward to serving you with a bigger and better public transit system!
